SecondLife has yet again let it’s userbase down. I know of NO other company which would rollout defective code and just “let it run” for DAYS at a time. Yes, it’s nice that they’re trying to fix it on the main grid, but lets face it, THIS IS COSTING PEOPLE MONEY.
I was told SL has a Service Level Agreement, I have yet to see one. The scripting language wasn’t developed to actually think that a command may fail and have a failsafe, so any money based scripts are just blindly running along thinking all is well with the world.. sending money into a huge void. People’s inventories are getting screwed up (no, not the people with the missing inventory.. those who rez no-copy items and then find that they’re not rezzed and not in inventory anymore). This is no way to run a company.
At this point I’d rather see a grid shutdown than having it wander along limping like this. Stop it, fix it without a load then try again (or roll back if needed).
There are a few Lindens who have gone out of their way to try to check up on the general population and I’ve had the pleasure of speaking to them in-world about the status of things, but this is starting to go beyond what any good customer service can smooth over.
